ORAL CANCER

Oral cancer is part of a group of cancers that affect the head and neck. Cancer is called oral cancer if it starts in:

  • The lips
  • The inside lining of the lips and cheeks
  • The teeth
  • The gums
  • The front two-thirds of the tongue
  • The floor of the mouth below the tongue
  • The bony roof of the mouth

Even if oral cancer spreads to another part of the body, it is still considered to be oral cancer. Doctors may also refer to oral cancer as oral cavity cancer.

Nearly 275,000 people worldwide are diagnosed with oral cancer each year. So if you, or someone you care about has oral cancer, you are not alone.
